Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran School was founded in 1968 by Christ Our Redeemer Church in order to supply a Christ-centered education for the children of its members and to act as a mission arm of the church to help in the joyful activity of spreading the Gospel to all in need of enlightenment. Its primary purpose is to help the children in their spiritual growth, and to lead them to a better understanding of the world around them, using the Bible as their guide.

Christ Centered Education: God’s love motivates all we do! We have devotions, Bible history lessons and memorization. The religious instruction does not end there, every class is taught according to what Scripture teaches. In sixth grade the students begin Catechism instruction with Pastor Voss, and by eighth grade are ready to become confirmed members of our church. This instruction is mandatory, but the rite of confirmation is not.

Experienced Teachers: Our teachers are all graduates of Martin Luther College – a nationally certified college which produces teachers specifically for the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) Schools. Mrs. Kim Lowers (grades K-2) has been teaching since 1976, Miss Margaret Rutschow (Grades 3-5) has been teaching since 1971, and Mr. Johnson (Grades 6-8) has been teaching since 1982.

Low Teacher-Pupil Ratio Classrooms: A maximum of 25 students per room. Our classrooms are multi-grade, K-2, 3-5, and 6-8. You may wonder how one teacher can handle so many grades, but we have found that our low teacher-pupil ratio gives the teachers ample time for one to one instruction, as well as giving the students an opportunity to learn to work independently. It allows the teacher to follow the progress of a student for several years, giving a better opportunity to assist in academic and spiritual growth.

Academic Excellence: Iowa Basic Tests Composite Average for School – 83rd percentile. Our school generally averages 1-2 years above the national grade equivalent scores. We encourage independent and responsible study habits.

Back to Basics Curriculum: The courses the students will study are as follows: Mathematics, Reading (strong phonetic approach), Social Studies, American History, Science, English, Spelling, Current Events, Physical Education, Music and Art. The textbooks are the same as those a public school would use, but the Bible is incorporated into the instruction to refute humanistic or evolutionary aspects of the material. In any question of morality, the Bible is used to solve problems, not the fallible human mind. We use God’s law to point out our sinful nature. The Gospel, which pro-claims God’s saving grace, is used as motivation for the children in their work at school.

Family Atmosphere and Active Parent Involvement: In general, the school has a family atmosphere. The parents, a vital part of a solid education, are encouraged to actively participate in their children’s work at home, and to keep an open line to the teacher’s to facilitate communication. There is also a Christian Education Society (CES) that meets quarterly to help parents and teachers discuss ways of improving the quality of education.

Interscholastic Activities: To foster ideas of good sportsmanship, we compete against five other WELS schools in the area. We play a co-ed soccer schedule, basketball for grades 4-8, and a Track and Field Day for all students. We have a Spelling Competition (first place for 13 years), an Art Fair, and a Math competition. We offer a Junior Choir and Tone Chime Choir; they also participate in a joint concert with area schools. The spirit of competition is present at these activities, but the children learn to conduct themselves in a pleasing Christian manner.

Enrollment Requirements: All who enroll must agree to the purposes for which the school was established, as set forth in the School Handbook. Members of our congregation are encouraged to enroll their children in our school and will be given first consideration. Children of non-members will be accepted under the following conditions – the parent(s) or guardian(s):

  • Have a sincere interest in Christian Education.
  • Take a brief course of instruction in the teachings of the Lutheran church.
  • Be willing to participate in the activities of the school.
  • Be willing to support the religious instruction of the children (help with memory work, family devotions, etc.).

Our policy for non-members wishing to attend is to meet with the family and student to discuss the academic and personal background of the child, and then submit the registration to the Board of Education for approval. Due to our classroom limitations, that might mean we would have to hold that registration, on a first come first served basis, until we have an accurate enrollment figure for the next school year.
